ARTIST StATEMENT

When asked how I describe my work, I see it as a metaphor for experiences and an expression of what I see and feel. We all have highly individual thoughts and associations. I believe we also have a spiritual core, unique to each of us. My work comes from this place.

My work is primarily non-representational, heavily influenced by color, form and emotion. Living in New Mexico while studying fine arts and cello performance has been foundational for my love of intense color. Music is another influence, particularly classical, having been a classical cellist.

I work with acrylic and a variety of materials. I build my surface with texture and collaged materials that I have hand painted., then add marks and acrylic. The conversation begins with the work in progress, adding layers with acrylic, collage and texture until the image is refined.
